Star of the game: The Ribault defense set the tone, getting an 80-yard interception return for a TD from Darnell Wilson to help the Trojans win their second consecutive game, this one a 16-14 slugfest over First Coast on Saturday morning. Ribault assistant coach Corey Redden filled in for head coach Kelvin Smith who was attending his stepfather’s funeral.

Key Players: Darius Lewis had a 30-yard TD run for the Buccaneers before Wilson’s pick-6 — and ensuing Trojans’ 2-point conversion — tied things at 8-all. Devin Norman had a 17-yard TD catch from Santana Jackson and the Trojans added another 2-point try. Cole Beckham and Arden Luster connected on a 17-yard TD but First Coast was denied on its conversion try.

Close calls: For the third week in a row, the Trojans have turned in a gritty effort. It lost to Baker County (8-6) and edged Suwannee (16-15) to keep its run of close calls going. Ribault’s defense gave up a total of 182 yards. ..

They said it: “It was big shoes to fill but he instilled a great system and we were able to still execute it even being one man down,” Redden said.
