As the Major League Baseball season winds down, the minor leagues have already wrapped up.

A total of 42 players with ties to the First Coast played in affiliate or Mexican League ball this season, with quite a few making a trip up to the bigs. The Times-Union charts how area products fared in the minors this season.

After 43 games for the Lancaster Jethawks, Baker was reassigned to Dunedin Blue Jays where he played 6 games. He finished the season 5-3 with 2 saves, 67 Ks, 2.84 ERA.

In 24 appearances between two stops, went 13-5 with a 3.17 ERA, 106 Ks in 130.2 IP.

Bird played 16 games for the Montgomery Biscuits before being assigned to the Durham Bulls. He finished the season 3-3 with 4 saves, 88 Ks, 2.39 ERA.

Batting average of .259 and a FPCT of .990 after 39 games this season.

Prior to elbow sprain injury that shut down his season, Dunning was 6-3 with 100 Ks in 86.1 IP.

Drury played in 17 games and had an ERA of 1.21, going a combined 4-1 with 28 Ks and just 6 walks.

In 13 games Gau had an ERA of 2.92 and finished 5-1 with 30 Ks and 7 walks in 24.2 IP.

In 11 games, German was 1-3 with a 2.08 ERA and 41 Ks (6 walks) in 30.1 IP.

Before getting released in May, Yahir hit .127 with an RBI in 25 games.

Leonard played in 124 games this season; had a batting average of .242 and an FPCT of .977; hit 11 HR and had 29 2Bs, 50 RBI

Had 23 appearances in minors, going 5-9 with 4.73 ERA, 118 Ks; also went 0-3 with 12 Ks, 9.60 ERA in 3 decisions in majors.

Marabell was an all-star while playing for AA Akron. Hit a combined .275 with 73 RBI, 13 HR at both levels.

Before going on the disabled list, he had a batting average of .225 and FPCT of .996; hti 14 HR, drove in 46 runs.

Went 0-2 with a 9.00 ERA, 18 Ks in 22 IP.

P, Pearson McMahan, Middleburg/SJRSC, Boise, A short, Rockies,

Rceived the NWL pitcher of the week award on July 22; record for the season was 3-5 with an ERA of 6.03 with 62 Ks in 68.2 IP.

​

C, Sam McMillian, Suwannee, Connecticut, A short, Tigers,

Hit .158 with 8 RBI, 6 2Bs. In two minor league seasons, is batting .210 with 3 HR, 33 RBI.

​

P, Alex McRae, JU, Indianapolis, AAA, Pirates,

McRae played 2 games for the Pittsburgh Pirates in July; optioned to Indianapolis, where he went 3-10 with a 4.77 ERA, save, 104 Ks in 117 IP.

​

C, Brian Navarreto, Arlington CD, Chattanooga, AA, Twins,

Batting average of .246 for the season. Navarreto had a FPCT of .990. Hit 4 HR, had 28 RBI.

P, Mike O’Reilly, Flagler, Palm Beach, AA, Cardinals,

O’Reilly had an ERA of 4.74 and a record of 5-8 (84 Ks in 112 IP) for the season while playing with three teams.

Recalled from the Buffalo Bisons to the Toronto Blue Jays in September. Was 7-5 with 98 Ks in 85.1 IP in Buffalo. In Toronto, is currently 2-4 with 5.13 ERA, 42 Ks in 33.1 IP.

Finished the season with a batting average of .238 and a FPCT of .989; hit 8 HR and had 27 2Bs, with 37 RBI.

Sheller received the mid-season all-star award from NW Arkansas. He finished the season with a 4-3 record and an ERA of 3.30 with 33 Ks in 57.1 IP.

Skinner voluntarily retired in July. Before retiring, Skinner had a batting average of .218 and a FPCT of .987 on 4 teams during the 2018 season.

Played in 53 games in AAA (.344, 5 HR, 32 RBI), but has logged 73 games this year with MLB Giants. Hitting .253 with 23 RBI.

Batting average of .213 and FPCT of .965; has 27 RBI, 10 HR, 10 2Bs.

RF, DJ Stewart, Bolles/FSU, MLB, Baltimore Orioles,

Hit .235 in 116 AAA games, with 55 RBI, 24 2Bs, 12 HR before promotion to Orioles. Hitting .241 with 2 HR, 7 RBI in Baltimore.

CF, Myles Straw, SJRSC, MLB, Houston Astros,

Straw played for the Fresno Grizzlies up until Sept. 15, where he hit .291 with 17 2Bs, 31 RBI. Now playing for the Houston Astros, Straw has appeared in 7 games and scored 3 runs; has 2 hits in 4 ABs.

LF, Tim Tebow, Nease, Binghamton, AA, Mets,

Prior to season-ending hand injury, Tebow had a batting average of .273, 36 RBI, 6 HR and a FPCT of .988.

P, Andy Toelken, Clay, Missoula, Rookie, D’backs*,

Went 1-2 with a 3.08 ERA, 16 Ks in 26.1 IP in two minor league stops this season.

P, Matt Tomshaw, JU, Birmingham, AA, White Sox,

Tomshaw received pitcher of the week twice during the 2018 season. He finished the season with a 9-9 record and an ERA of 5.75.

Finished the season 0-3 with a 6.75 ERA, 19 Ks in 38.2 IP.

LF, Adam Brett Walker, JU, Harrisburg, AA, Nationals,

Walker received the player of the week award in June. He finished the season with a batting average of .200, FPCT of .985 and 17 RBI.

LF, Drew Weeks, Clay/UNF, Hartford, AA, Rockies,

Finished the season with a batting average of .248, with 41 RBI, 11 HR, 12 2Bs in stops in rookie, AAA and AA.

P, Matthew Wynne, Flagler, Wilmington, A adv, Royals,

Wynne only played 14 games this season before he voluntarily retired with an 0-1 mark in 17.2 IP.
